Lead Pastor – Rev. Dr. Sung I. Yoo

Sung was born and grew up in South Korea. Sung earned a Bachelor in Theology degree at The Methodist Theological Seminary in Seoul, South Korea. He came to the United States in 1998 and earned a Master of Divinity degree at Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary in Evanston, Illinois, and a Doctor of Philosophy degree at The University of Virginia in Charlottesville, Virginia.  Sung started his full-time ministry in 2003, serving Oakwood UMC, and was ordained as an elder in full connection to the Virginia Annual Conference in 2008.  Sung served Blacksburg UMC as associate pastor for two years, getting acquainted to Hokies, and Emmaus United Methodist Church of Stratford Hills in Richmond for three years.  In 2013, he got appointed to our church Regester Chapel.  Sung likes playing table tennis and drums, watching movies with his family, taking family trips to explore new places, and watching a food channel with his wife.  Sung is married to Wonsoon, who holds a dual graduate degree of a Master of Divinity at Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary and a Master of Social Work at Loyola University in Chicago, Illinois.  She is pursuing to be a licensed clinical social worker in the field of counseling.  Sung and Wonsoon have one son, John, whom they call “John the Methodist.”

Director of Music Ministry: Ethan Murphy


Ethan is a North Carolina native but was raised and schooled in Northern Virginia. He is a high school graduate of Prince William County Schools and received his Bachelor of Music degree with a concentration in Vocal and Choral music from James Madison University. While at JMU, Ethan was the winner of the 2012 JMU Choral Conducting Competition and served as manager and student conductor for many of JMU’s choral ensembles.

In addition to his duties as Director of Music at Regester Chapel, Ethan is the Choral Director at Freedom High School in Woodbridge, VA. In 2016, he received James Madison University’s Outstanding Early Music Educator Award for his work and professional accomplishments at Freedom High School. In his spare time, Ethan enjoys playing piano, baking, and representing the JMU Dukes. Ethan feels very blessed to have the opportunity to serve the community of Regester Chapel.

Music Accompanist: Teresa Wu

Teresa was born in Taiwan and emigrated to the United States in 1995, where she called southern California her home for most of her life. Her music education included piano and cello performances at the Los Angeles County High School for the Arts, where she served as principal cellist. She completed her B.A. in Music Performance at the California State University, Los Angeles, before she transitioned her career to focus on education and completing a Master's in Education and instructional design. Teresa started teaching cello and piano when she was 15, which fueled her passion for education. This passion leads her to pursue single-subject teaching credentials in music, English, Chinese, and computer science, where she taught middle school, high school, and university-level on pedagogy and educational technology. Teresa's musical accomplishment included numerous piano competitions and scholarship awards, winning two first places in Chopin and concerto performance competitions. In her spare time, Teresa enjoys learning new skills, keeping abreast in her fields, playing video games, watching TV, reading and writing fiction

Children & Youth Music Ministry Leader, Contemporary Worship Co-Leader: Dawn Houser-Abel

Dawn Houser-Abel is a free-lance vocalist with a career that spans thirty years. During her career, she has been fortunate enough to direct various instrumental and vocal ensembles. She has also provided solo and choir music that spans across all genres, and has participated in choirs of various levels under nationally recognized directors along the East Coast. Her passion has always been for ministry. She formerly toured with her family gospel group for 6 years and is an accomplished songwriter.  Currently, she is the Children’s Music Minister and along with Anthony Gerogosian, leads the Contemporary service here at Regester each week.


Contemporary Worship Co-Leader: Anthony Gerogosian 


Anthony is a native of Port Clinton, Ohio, and spent most of his young life growing up on the family farm before moving to Maryland in 1962, then to Virginia in 1967. His musical education includes two years of concert band in middle school and independent music studies. He earned an A.A.S. in Communication Design from Northern Virginia Community College. His professional career spans more than 40 years in several diverse musical projects as an acoustic soloist with duos, trios, quartets, as a drummer, bassist and lead guitarist and singer including in his own band. Anthony is also a successful guitar teacher, serving in Stafford and Woodbridge since 1997. He is passionate about his faith and his music, and is a prolific songwriter covering many genres including contemporary Christian. His vision is to reach people and encourage them to worship God through praise music here at Regester Chapel along with fellow Contemporary Worship Leader Dawn Houser-Abel and the Praise Team members. Anthony loves to spend time with his family including his wife, Denise, on their boat, cooking, gardening, writing new songs and recording them.


Children's Ministry Leader and Youth Ministry Leader:  Keri Church

Keri holds a B.A. in Theater Performance from Indiana University of Pennsylvania, an M.A. in Creative Arts Therapies from Concordia University in Montreal, an M.Min. in Theology and a Master of Biblical Studies from Veritas Baptist College. Keri has spent the past seven years teaching AP Literature, AP Psychology, and Theater at private Christian schools. She comes to us from Living Stone Church in Verona where she served as the Youth Minister. Keri maintains that there is no more joyful noise in the world than that of a child laughing. She loves reading, shooting pool, drinking coffee, and going on adventures with her better half. She cannot wait to meet you and partner with you in ministry!
